How Dysport Works
Dysport works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. When injected into targeted facial muscles, such as those responsible for forehead lines, glabellar lines (between the brows), and crow’s feet, it relaxes those muscles, allowing the overlying skin to smooth naturally.
Unlike some neurotoxins, Dysport has a slightly broader diffusion pattern, which means it spreads smoothly across the treatment area. This makes it particularly effective for larger areas like the forehead, where a soft, even result is essential. Many patients begin noticing improvement within 2 to 4 days, though full results are best assessed at about 2 weeks. Results typically last around 3 months on average.

How is Dysport different from other neurotoxins?
Dysport has a slightly different formulation and diffusion pattern compared to other neurotoxins. It spreads more naturally across treatment areas, making it ideal for larger zones like the forehead. Many patients prefer its softer feel and the way it preserves natural movement while still delivering excellent smoothing.
What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?
Dysport and Botox are both FDA approved neuromodulators derived from botulinum toxin type A. They work in very similar ways by relaxing targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines, but they are not dosed the same.
Dysport units are measured differently than Botox units, so the number of units used will look higher even though the clinical effect is comparable. In general, it often takes about 2.5 to 3 units of Dysport to equal 1 unit of Botox, depending on the area treated and your individual muscle strength. For example, 20 units of Botox is roughly equivalent to about 60 units of Dysport.
This difference does not mean Dysport is weaker or stronger. It simply reflects how each product is manufactured and measured.
Dysport also tends to spread a bit more smoothly in the tissue, which can be especially helpful in larger areas like the forehead, often creating a softer, more blended result when placed appropriately. How long does Dysport last?
Results typically last about 3 months, though this varies based on the treatment area, your muscle strength, metabolism, and the dose used. Higher dosing generally lasts longer, while lower dosing tends to wear off sooner. We’ll tailor your treatment plan to match your goals and discuss what to expect for your specific anatomy.
When will I see results?
Most patients notice initial smoothing within 2 to 4 days, with full results visible by 14 days. Dysport is one of the faster-acting neurotoxins available, but we still recommend scheduling treatment about 3 to 4 weeks before an important event. This allows time for full settling and, if needed, a touch-up to ensure your results look exactly how you want.
What is a lip flip?
A lip flip is a small amount of neurotoxin placed along the upper lip to gently relax the muscle and allow the lip to roll outward slightly. This can create the appearance of a more defined upper lip without adding volume.
A lip flip is best for patients who want a subtle enhancement or notice their upper lip tucks under when they smile. Results are modest and temporary, typically lasting around 6 to 8 weeks. For patients looking for more noticeable volume or shape, dermal filler may be a better option.
